NCA Collaborates with the Tony Blair Institute to Create a Smart and Sustainable City

JAKARTA – The Nusantara Capital Authority (NCA) and the Tony Blair Institute (TBI) for Global Change Indonesia today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to continue collaboration in the development of the Nusantara National Capital, a national strategic project which is believed to be a major milestone in Indonesia's future.

This collaboration covers four main aspects as well as other strategic cooperation opportunities which include: (1) improving the education sector through collaboration between higher education institutions, (2) developing the health sector related to clinical trials, research and development, (3) developing investment potential by arranging strategic business plans, foreign investment facilitation, and communication strategies, as well as (4) city development through comparative studies of future cities in the world.

This MoU was signed by the Secretary of NNCA, Mr. Achmad Jaka Santos Adiwajaya and the Country Director of TBI Indonesia, Mrs. Shuhaela Haqim. Tony Blair, founder and Executive Chairman of TBI and Bambang Susantono, Head of the Nusantara National Capital Authority (NNCA) also witnessed the signing of the MoU which was carried out at the NNCA Jakarta office.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the NCA, Bambang Susantono said, "We are very pleased to be able to establish this MoU collaboration which will support us in realizing the vision of the Nusantara to become an inclusive and sustainable city, which cares about the welfare and progress of its citizens, and giving them access to world-class research and innovation as well as educational services. Apart from that, this collaboration will also help us identify more investment opportunities that can accelerate the development of the Nusantara."

Managing Director of TBI Asia, Jalil Rasheed said that this partnership shows TBI's growing commitment in the Asian region in advancing key targets that will push partner countries towards more resilient and stronger inclusive economic development.

"This MoU is part of TBI's larger commitment to drive transformative change in the region. Indonesia is TBI's strategic partner in Asia, and political stability and a rapid transition to a green economy in this country can determine the region's strength and prosperity. TBI hopes we can deepen our involvement in developing strategic solutions for Indonesia's new capital, as we increase our presence in the region," said Rasheed.

"We are here to turn bold ideas into reality," said TBI Indonesia Country Director, Shuhaela Haqim, adding "Today's MoU is an important step to formalize how TBI as an institution can work together with NCA to provide real results in realizing President Joko Widodo's vision for a new capital city. Besides that, this is also further evidence of TBI's presence in Indonesia which continues to grow over time, through partnerships with the government."
